About Airocide
Let us introduce you to Airocide by Airocide Air, a non-chemical air cleaning system that is no ozone. Our commercial air sanitation system was created using NASA technology and delivers the most recent advancement in airborne cross-contamination defense for your business, your priceless brands, and your goods. Applications for successfully and economically enhancing and safeguarding commercial indoor air quality (IAQ) are practically endless.
Beginning with NASA in space, the Airocide narrative. Ethylene gas (C2H4) was the issue they were having. NASA's first astronauts had to cultivate and tend to their own crops. This necessitated the creation of greenhouses from the space age so that astronaut farmers could test collecting massive amounts of food crops. Ethylene is a naturally occurring, colorless, odorless gas released by plants that promotes deterioration by hastening the ripening of fruits, vegetables, and flowers.
Ethylene, a compound made of carbon and hydrogen, accumulates quickly in enclosed growing environments, such as those found on spacecraft or in terrestrial greenhouses, causing plants to mature too soon. Therefore, ethylene gas removal is crucial to maintaining crops both on Earth and in space. Because commercial supermarkets, cold storage facilities, and flower shops all have a specialized interest in getting rid of ethylene gas. If they don't, their items' shelf lives, storage lives, and home lives are ultimately shortened.
Airocide completely neutralizes airborne bacteria, mold, fungi, mycotoxins, viruses, allergens, volatile organic compounds (VOCs like ethylene), and odors by mineralizing organic compounds (turning them into carbon dioxide and water vapor). Additionally, neither the commercial gadget uses nor generates ozone or any other potentially dangerous byproducts. The original Space Shuttle Columbia mission STS-73 carried the Airocide technology, which was successfully employed within the shuttle to sustain crop growth by eliminating ethylene gas and other airborne toxins.
Based on ground-breaking research conducted by NASA, the University of Wisconsin (UW), and the Wisconsin Center for Space Automation and Robotics (WCSAR), the technology was initially created for the NASA space program. A proprietary method is used by the Airocide commercial air filtration systems to eliminate more than 99.99% of the airborne viruses that pass through its processor. By totally mineralizing (destroying) them using Airocide, they are transformed into carbon dioxide and water vapor.
Bacillus thuringiensis, a relative of the anthrax bacteria, is demonstrated to be completely eradicated by Airocide's air purification technology in just one run through its reactor.
Photocatalytic oxidation method eliminates airborne Lactobacillus, which can be an issue in wine, beer, and other beverage and food processing facilities, in addition to other bacteria, fungi, and viruses.
Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO)
The pathogen-killing method utilized in Airocide's commercial air purification product combines photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) with UV light to eliminate dangerous airborne bacteria. The oxygen that forms up 20% of our air is the oxidant used in PCO. It is not essential to utilize additional oxidants like ozone (O3) or hydrogen peroxide since the quantity of oxygen in the air is so much higher than the (total) concentration of gaseous indoor air pollutants (H202). The system does not produce ozone.
As a photocatalyst, titanium dioxide (TiO2) is employed. The trademarked TiO2 mix that covers the catalyst material is made using a special procedure. Hydroxyl radicals and super-oxide ions are created when this substance is exposed to ultraviolet photons from the interior lamps. These substances will oxidize volatile organic compounds (VOCs) adsorbed on the catalyst surface, reducing them to trace amounts of carbon dioxide and water. Airborne pathogens will also be killed and broken down by them. The photocatalytic reactor is self-cleaning in relation to organic material on the catalyst surface because the organic material is entirely oxidized by this process.
The History of PCO
Recently, PCO has drawn attention as a method for treating microorganisms and gaseous pollutants. Construction techniques have favored the design of compact structures during the past 25 years in order to lower the expense of heating and cooling the interior spaces. However, the concentration of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) might rise in the absence of adequate ventilation. Unwanted VOCs may contribute to indoor air pollution, which is a potential cause of sick building syndrome.
There are several potential uses for PCO, which was initially reported in a published report on photoreactivity (the forerunner to PCO). Compared to the published research on the photocatalytic treatment of substances in aqueous media, gas phase PCO studies are very sparse in number. Gas-solid PCO, however, is gaining popularity due to its potential use in pollution control in interior spaces, like as homes, offices, factories, airplanes, and spacecraft in 1921. However, research on photocatalysis didn't start until 1971.
Airflow Explanation
Although Airocide Photocatalytic Air Purifying Systems are not integrated into or built into a building's central heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, their performance from room to room is improved by the super pure air mixing and moving around the space via the room's natural and forced air movement. In essence, the HVAC system's interconnected ductwork increases the Airocide system's effectiveness in a specific coverage area. As long as the room location has an air conditioning/heating intake and air return, Airocide air purifiers can be installed affixed to walls or ceiling in any room of a building, and their benefits can be noticed in adjacent rooms. Air "communicates" in the connected and nearby rooms in this way.
Multiple air routes travel through the photocatalytic chamber of the Airocide system, where a chemical reaction produces more than 99.99% pure air that subsequently mixes with the remaining contaminated air to purify and remove air contamination. Following several hours of repeated pure-to-contaminated mixing, the amount of both solid particles and gaseous contamination in the entire space is reduced.
The air purifying system continues to cleanse the air around-the-clock when new contaminants are added by opening doors to the outside, internally created gaseous compounds, or human carriers of additional organic waste. The capacity for extremely high single pass removal and continuous operation are the keys to increasing its efficacy. Only ultra-pure air and minute amounts of carbon dioxide and water vapor are expelled from the system.
Similar to how the colored water in this glass would ultimately diffuse throughout the entire vessel, an Airocide unit combines with the air in a room or building to remove impurities.
